We’ve all got big dreams. Goals, aspirations, perfect life visions, hopes…
Hop onto Facebook or Instagram and you’ll discover thousands of women DOING big things, achieving big goals, and living big lives.
It’s definitely inspiring and enough to make you think anybody can do it.
What they don’t let you see are all the failures and letdowns they went through… the stories that ended in tears and heartache. The inner turmoil they had to overcome. The goals that went un-acheived and abandoned.
I see this happening all over the country. There’s at least a handful of women at every event I speak at that are going through this.
So today I want to address “The 3 Most Common Mindsets Most Women Keep That Sabotage Any Goal They Ever Set… No Matter How Good Their Action Plan Is” so you’ll end up like many of my clients: Big Successes, and not just watching from the sidelines.
Deal? Great! Let’s get started.
Sabotaging Mindset #1: “I can’t do this.”
Other variations include: “Can I really do this?”, “I’m not sure I can make this work.”, “This is too hard.”
Whether you believe that your words shape your reality or not, take a moment to think about what kind of impact it’s having on your self-esteem, confidence, and success to have a broken record playing in the background playing “I can’t do this” over and over.
You listen to a song long enough and you’ll know the words by heart. Am I right?
The same is true for negative thoughts playing over and over again in your head too.
Because the HARD TRUTH is you CAN do whatever you set your mind to.
In the words of Henry Ford, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.”
Sabotaging Mindset #2: “I don’t know enough.”
Some variations: “I’m not smart enough.”, “I need to know more about…”, “Once I know how to…”
This one’s juicy and filled with assumptions.
Assumption #1: That you need to know everything before you can start something. (Did you know the entire anatomical bone structure of your feet before you started walking?)
Assumption #2: That the people you’re going to interact with (or help) need to know everything there is to know about what you’re going to do before you can help them. (Did your mom and dad know the entire anatomical structure of your feet before they taught you how to walk?)
Assumption #3: That you somehow, in some way, for whatever self degrading reason, are not good enough just as you are. Why else would you need to know more? (Did you need a sixth toe to learn how to walk, or did five toes work just fine?)
Plus, we all know what happens when you assume…
It makes an asinine excuse to give up on a dream.
Sabotaging Mindset #3: “There is so much to do. How am I going to get it all done?!”
Ha! Jokes on you because there is only ever ONE thing to do at any given time. And that is…
The one next thing you need to do to move you forward toward your goal.
Try as you might, but you really can’t do two things at once. One thing at a time, my dear. One foot in front of the other. One email written before another. One phone call before the next.
I’ve got proof for days about how you can only do one thing at a time, but I think you get the picture…
When you’re focused on all the things you have to do, you lose sight of the one true thing you need to do: The Next Best Step.
Here are sabotaging mindset #3’s variations… “I don’t have enough time”, “When I have more time then I’ll be able to…”, “I’ve got too much on my plate”, “There aren’t enough hours in the day.” “I’m not sure I’ll be able to get it all done.”
Alright, wipe these sabotaging phrases out of that genius little mind of yours and you’ll be well on your way to posting selfies of you sipping Mai Tai’s from your private villa in Bora Bora, but don’t take my word for it…
You can stay right where you are. All you have to do is keep that broken record on and I guarantee you will.
Until next time… STAY BIG!
